Also, I have a 20 meg uncapped connection, and no other system than NTL cable comes close to that. Up until now, I have never had a problem, but today, I started seeing error messages from the server sying that I could no longer post. This afternoon, messages from NTL started appearing on the groups, saying that they had 'migrated' to a new binary server with better this and better that and to carry on, you would need to create a new account with the new server name. Seems to me that this is bullshit, and all they are trying to do is to get everyone over onto a Virgin Media server. I created the necessary account and did a full newsgroup header download in OE, but the groups did not appear to be updating. Posts were again accepted, but I could not see them appearing, and it used to be pretty much instant on the good old NTL server. I've just given it another try on OE, but this time, it wouldn't even connect to their rotten new bloody server, so I came across to X-News, and that managed to connect ok, and I saw my posts, and the replies, so now I am trying a 'reply'. I would prefer to get OE working correctly again, because whilst X-News is a fine reader, i find OE a little better for posting and thread watching, from a usability angle. Hopefully, normal service will be resumed soon, and I will get back to normal on here. Right then, here goes ... Arfa |

It's just after 1 am here now, and the house has gone quiet, so I can now sit down and sort all this properly. I just deleted all mail accounts from my OE, and started again with a new account on the new server name. It did the usual, and asked me if I wanted to see a list of groups on the server, so I told it "yes" and it downloaded 70 odd thousand. Now I seem to think that there was actually more than that on the old server, but whatever. Anyways, once it had, I searched out s.e.r. and Lo! there it was, and there were my test posts, so I am now replying via OE. I'll check in a mo, and see if it finds its way here. In the meantime, all I've got to do now is to reset the flags on all the threads I was following and partaking in, re-subscribe to all my 'regular' groups, and then try to figure out how to delete an account in X-News. I have created a new account that seems to work ok, but of course, the original (now wrong server name) account remains as the default, and I can't see quickly, how to get rid of it, or set the new account as the default. If anyone reading this knows, please feel free to let me know ... d;~} Arfa |
